Tuesday's Christmas Party

What a great day, lots of food, lovely friends, georgeous gifts, heaps of laughs..and elastic
Here is the Tuesday Sewing Group - left to right - Lucy, Tereasa, Helen, Teresa, Laurel and in front Mary and Me (Sandi).  Don't we look a handsome bunch...just as well you can't hear us..that may be a different story....
Helen wore her reindeer antlers all day (except when driving)...they look so festive, I think she should wear them everywhere - don't you?
Look...who is this? lol
Could it be, maybe it is, the possibilities are high...It's Teresa diving into one of the yummy desserts that Laurel has made for everyone...hehhehe Teresa said I wasn't to put this delightful photo of her on my blog, so if you don't tell her and I don't tell her then all will be sweet.   Well maybe
This is what Teresa is biting into...

We all decided that a hands on approach was the only way to eat this fabulous desert...all behaving lady-like
goes out the window and you just have to dive in...Teresa apparently has just as good a photo of me digging into mine but I think she maybe all bluff....hey Teresa...maybe it was blurred or something....proof is in the
Look...mmmm...Seems like Teresa is at the food again...this time it's strawberry cheesecake...And Tereasa is waiting patiently for her piece...then it was my turn...thank goodness I can't take photo's of myself eating...but I did have my stretchy pants on...

Here is Laurel, she is a wonderful person to know cause she is the one to make those lovely brandy snap desserts.  I think she is savouring the moment here. lol

I was very spoilt today, this beautiful coathanger and chrissy decoration was given to me by Helen, she is so talented..I will treasure them forever, thanks again Helen.

This was also a little gift from Helen...the fabric started out its life as a fat quarter with the reputation in the group as being the ugly know the sort...there is always one fabric that just is a shocker...anyway it has been handed around the group..usually quite deviously and Helen was the last person to inherit the so called - ugly fabric...And she kept this fabric for some time without mentioning it and as part of our pressies she made each of us a finger pin cushion out of it...she did the mistake of giving us all a little bit of the scrap that was left now we are working out a way of combining our little pieces  together to return the favour...hehehehe. watch out -Helen - you never know when it may turn up, maybe when you least expect it...
Look at this beautiful Quilter's Journal that Teresa made for me...come to think of it - she may want it back after finding out I put that lovely photo of her eating on my blog...She has inspired me to drag out my papers and ribbons and play with them...I want to use it but then again I want to save it...what to do..Thanks Teresa, sorry about the photo..if I could take it back I would..or would
These beautiful buttons were given to me by Tereasa, for those of you that are new to my blog - I'm going to be a grandma for the first time in 2012 and I am a little excited, alright I am alot excited...and my grandchild should be a boy (if the scan is correct).  Arnt they great...I love them, can't wait to show my daughter and to come up with some ideas of what to make using them...Anyone got any ideas?  Maybe on a wall hanging.
Thanks Tereasa...They are perfect..

I know this is a long blog, but I just had so much to talk about..Sorry for that to anyone who I am boring, you can stop reading and move onto another blog...but I'm nearly finished - promise.
Do you remember earlier me telling you about Laurel and her lovely desserts, well this is what she gave me, all beautifully wrapped but the best part is on the inside...look at this...

They were delicious...yes thats right, you heard it..."were"  Its ok I have my elastic pants on still...I may live in them until after Christmas...I did share with hubby, maybe I should look for elastic pants for him
What a day, so tired now and full and very contented...would purr if I was a cat, oh hell with it, I think I will purr anyway. Thanks Laurel, you are a wonderful cook, they were that tasty that I almost didn't get a photo..
Well I think that I have mentioned everything, thanks again to everyone, I had a wonderful day, and I definitely think it was the people that made it wonderful not the gifts or the food (well.. the gifts and food did help)  I can't wait for 2012, will miss you all over the break...i know its what only 2 weeks but still thats a long time to be away from friends..Cheers anyone who put up with my long blog...and Merry Christmas All. I hope I didnt leave anyone out...please forgive me if I did.

Christmas with the Monday Girls

Oops I did it again....Hah...this time I was smarter, It takes me a while to learn by my mistakes but I do get there...eventually.  You see today I started to wear my elastic belts and buttons here..oh no sir ree.
We had our Monday sewing group christmas party today and I wore my elastic waist  I still can't move around to much at the moment due to the amount consumed today but I didn't have to unbuckle anything.  See - getting smarter..hehehe
Left to right...Tereasa, Trish, Jenny and Marilyn.
As you can see there is an empty chair beside Marilyn, this is my chair and as you can see...there is lots of food in front of me..I think we started at 10am and ate til 2....Would you believe that after we ate just about everything here, Jenny brought out her Cherryripe Cheesecake...can you believe that - cherryripe and cheesecake as one food item..what a combination, mmmm.  Just as well I wore the elastic pants..

I did get a little sewing done today...not all party, a little stitching as well...Tereasa of Homespun & Beautiful got in these lovely stitcheries by The Birdhouse.  And I did put my fork down long enough to finish the one I have been working on. This one is called the  -Friendship Tree.  Tereasa got in the little white frames for us to finish this project off, and if I do say so myself, doesn't it look fabulous... the buttons came with the pattern and they are just perfect too...yes very proud of this piece,  I did a great
So as you can see, I can do something else other that eat..and its almost as  Cheers

Christmas Lunch with Meg and Cam

Today we went to Elle's place for an early lunch with her Nanna and Uncle.  Yes you guessed it, I'm sitting here with the pants unbuttoned again....I seriously am doubting my ability to survive this week..I know - keep the head held high and take one for the family (or two or three).  I gave Elle some little gingerbread men that I had stitched up and she used them to decorate the table - I'm not sure they can breath in there but they did look great.
Meg aka Nanna, gave the boys a chrissy tie each.  The ties have lights in them and sing.  I should have taken some photos of the boys puting the ties on...some were tied in knots until dad helped them
You know they actually wore the ties the whole day...
Here we have James, Mike, Wayne, Jaxon and Cameron.  Don't they just look I couldnt put up the first photo I took of them, they were being silly..
Say Hi Meg, yep thats you on my blog page for the whole world to see....What a great photo of you with your grand daughters - Elle and Amelia.  For the rest of blogland, you should see the cards that Meg has made for us over the's been a highlight in our family whenever it is someones birthday or special occasion to see what card Meg has invented for us...We eagerly await the postie then pass it round so everyone gets to see it...I think we have kept most of them - they are just too good to throw away.
This one has a quilting theme...thanks Meg, I know that I was your inspiration for this years theme.
It has been pieced together and sewn just like a quilt...What a tallented lady, and what a good day...And yes time to get the shorts off...I think Elle sent a plum pudding doggie bag home for us...I'll just go see if it is still in the Cheers.

27 weeks and counting

Elle has reached  the 27 week mark and is doing great...on the 28th December we get to see our future grandson on a 3D scan..can't wait...I hope he is in a good position to see him well...I wonder if I hold chocolate to one side of Elle's belly that he will turn towards it...

Christmas with the Girls and their Hubbies

OMG I can't move, ate toooo much now paying the  It's soo hard to type this without moving too much...will I make it to christmas day in one piece - I think

From left to right - Rob, Lynne, Me, Wayne, Chrissa and Neil...
My lovely friends came for a christmas -well I guess you could call it lunch but it kinda went from 9 to 5 and in that time we kinda did nothing but chat, drink and eat. The only time we moved away from the food is to get this photo  And by that time there was hardly any food left.  This is a photo of the delicious desert Neil so kindly made for the day...Mango Trifle...Yes had two serves of this yummy food...
And this is a piece of the Pavlova that Lynne had made for the day...and yes I did have a slice of it too..
I know - and I wonder why the belt and button are undone now....Yum...

Dont get the wrong idea..we did eat lots of other foods during the day...we started with a cheese platter, consisting of Brie, Smoked Dutch, Garlic and Chives and Pate...this went very well with our coffees.  We decided that 9 am was a little early to start drinking alcohol, so coffee was it.
Then we moved onto kebabs, salads, get the idea..This is what happens when you have way too much sugar and alcohol in one session...You lock the keys in the boot...How many men does it take to unlock a car with no keys....none - they couldn't do round trip to collect the spare key from home was how the problem was solved..mind you the round trip took and hour and a half....It was a great day even if I cant move now...mmmm may have to rethink my eating tactics, I have a family christmas tomorrow and two sewing christmas celebrations to follow this week...I dont think I will make it...but I will give it a good go.

By for now...need to remove shorts...I wonder if their is any pav left in the fridge?

Teddybears Picnic

These cute little teddies are all dressed for the last Teddybears Picnic for 2011...they have their hats and scarves on and the little one is even holding a Secret Santa key which allows Santa to enter a house without a chimney. I think he is making sure he is not going to miss out on any presents.  From the Teddies and myself we would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy, but Safe, New Year.  Thanks Melody
for allowing all the teddies to get together each month...I think after all the picnicing that they may need to join Teddy Craig (lol...Jenny Craig), but then teddies should be cuddly. Might see everyone next year....but for now it's time to get down to some serious picnicing.

Gotta Brag

My daughter, Amelia, received three awards at school yesterday.  She is in year 6 and took out the Science Award, Academic Award and in year 7 she has been chosen to be a Student was so surprised and very very proud.  Not sure where she got the smart genes from, hopefully I can lay claim to some of  She was so excited that it took me three attempts to get a photo of her with the certificates, she just wouldn't stand still. Keep up the good work sweetheart, mum and dad are very proud.

Christmas Has Made An Appearance

Guess what I have been doing...come's the first weekend in December....Yep you guessed it, unpacking all the christmas trimmings...I don't know about anyone else but I always end up sneezing by the time I am finished unpacking everything, must be the dust bunnies - but we won't go there now will we.
While I was unpacking I came across several things that I had made in the past and thought I would share them with blogland...
This is what my Bakers Stand looks like when I have adorned it with some of my special itemes...

On the floor to the left of the Bakers Stand is my advent doll, she has the cutest apron on with little pockets numbered 1 to 24.
I have also decorated our wood heater - this is where I keep the gingerbread men warm and toasty...nah only joking, it's way too hot to light a
At the base of the wood heater is a little train that my son, James made for me when he was in primary school (he is 19 now)...I just love it, it reminds me of the old fashioned wooden toys one use to get...not like all the plastic items you buy today.
The stockings are hung...ok well not all the stockings are on this wall unit...we have a big family so they need to be spread around.
I also found some other items that I have made but I havent got a space for them right now.  One is an advent calender and the other is some little, I guess you would call them, gifttags.

Anyhow, I think that is enough for one blog, I will add some more photos of other christmas items later in the month...cheers all, and I hope all is well in Blogland..

I won, I won, I won

Guess what came in the mail today....can't guess...well ok I will tell you.  A few weeks back I entered a competition on the blog site - To enter the competition you had to choose out of three book covers which one the owner of the blog site had chosen for her applique piece.
Anyhow I won...silly me.....It never even dawned on me when I recieved the email from Carrie saying how she would put it in the mail for me and how hopefully it wont take long to get down under...I just assumed it was from Northern Queensland, Australia....well as I said...silly me...Carrie is from North Carolina, USA.
After bragging to my friends about winning (I can do that cause I have never won anything in blog land I think that gives me the right)....I showed them the site and after telling them I thought it was coming from up north...well yes...they had a good laugh at my expense...but I think I got the last laugh, dont you, because it arrived today and I can't wait to show them...oh wait  - thats right - to late - they are bloggers too..hehehehe... As you can see from the photo there is a lovely piece of fabric with threads and cotton and a punch needle tape measure holder...I think I may be onto something here...I wonder what other competitions there are out there...Anyhow - thanks Carrie for giving me the chance to win something, I love it..

Tuesdays Treasures

I have been thinking of joining the theme - Tuesdays Treasures - for a while and each time I wonder what I would blog about - my family are my closest treasures but after that one does wonder what would come next if I had a list...What means alot to me?  And you know what, it would have to be two very special friends of mine..Lynne and Chrissy.  We met over 16 years ago, when my son started pre-school and even though families grow or people move we still make time for each other.  We see each other now every three weeks - our shopping trips... most of the time meet up at the same shopping centre, but then there are times when, if one of us wants to go somewhere different, we end up somewhere else.  Usually our get togethers are surrounded by food...we do have a fondness for foods that my doctor would frown at, but we have fun. Trying on clothing is something you have to laugh at...having similar tastes, we quite often emerge from a changeroom with the same outfit should see the look on the shop assistants face when the three of us come out all dressed the same..  My two special friends dont care how old I am, how many kids I have, whether I dress up or go totally casual, they just like me for me, and I like them for them.  They would definitely be next on my list.  Thanks Melody for letting me join in today...

Here is Lynne with her Husband Rob...I think she is smiling because there is cheesecake on the
And this is Chrissy (in the pink)..yes we are looking a little worse for wear...Chrissys house went under in the Birsbane floods earlier this year and we were in the middle of cleaning the house of all the mud (mud is probably a nice word to describe it) ...what a day, but we still could laugh...I have to add, that in the middle of the floods that destroyed Brisbane and my friends home, she was in the middle of being treated for Breast Cancer....she is a remarkable person, someone I admire dearly.

Nice People Nice Things

Well I have been a little slack with keeping up with my stitcheries...I have been busy making chrissy pressents so I think I can be forgiven...  These two bring my tally to 10/54 of the stitcheries done and 2/54 sayings done. After Christmas I will have to knuckle down and get more completed.

23 Weeks and one colourful quilt

Elle has reached the 23 week mark with no problems except backache and an insatiable appetite for slurpies..
I was rummaging through a cupboard the other day and came across this quilt...I had made it a while ago for any future grandkids...yeah I know...but the odds of having grandkids one day was pretty good with 5 of my own kids....One of them was going to make me a grandparent eventually...

Jellyroll Race

Today, The Beaudesert Quilter's had our very first Jellyroll Race.  What a laugh, we had a ball or should I say a  We made sure we had the appropriate nibblies for the know...jelly - beans,  jelly - babies,  Jelly - jubes....And for prizes we had Jellyfruits, and of course,  Jellies - in all different flavours.
They all turned out beautiful, I wonder if they will want to do one again.  The winner of the race was our very own Secretary - Faye...she completed her quilt in 1 hour and 30 minutes.  Second only by minutes, was Joan with 1 hour 37 minutes, and Mary came in third with 1 hour and 40 minutes.  The rest of the group came in not too long after this. . ok well maybe a few of us took a little longer..but they all did such a great job.

In order from left to right...we have.. Annie, Gwen, Joan, Carolyn, Sandi (Me), Mary, Faye and Trish.
Since we were trying to all fit in the photo, we had to fold our quilts in half, but you get the idea.
Here we have Noela and Jo and (Kerry - not in the photo)...They were in the 'Preschool' Group..they were a little slower but they got there in the end.
Jo  is hiding behind her beautiful quilt, and  Noela with her lovely quilt.  I am glad it was a timed race because I don't think I would be able to pick the prettiest one.

We were very lucky today to also have a visit from Tereasa of Homespun & Beautiful.  She so kindly brought in some of her fabrics so we could choose our borders and peeper fabrics once our quilts were completed.  We certainly timed her visit well, she is having a 30% off all her fabrics we all got a bargin...or two,or three or in Annies case....two   Thanks Tereasa for coming down and bringing your fabric and for the great prices.
Anyhow, hope you have enjoyed reading this long blog today, there was just so much to say...

Teddy Bear's Picnic

OMG Melody, Thank you...I have had a busy day today and look what was waiting for me in the mailbox.
I have to admit the chocies exist no more....they didnt last long and they went great with my coffee.  I am going to attach the little teddy charm onto my scissors so I everytime I use them it will remind me of the Teddy Bear's Picnic.  Thank you heaps...Melody, I hope you are going to run it in 2012 too.
