Birthday's Galore

Today we  celebrated not one but two birthdays in our household...Our eldest daughter, Elle, turned
25 and our youngest son, Jaxon, turned 19...
Elle has a thing for ice-cream cake - the one with the freddo frogs in iside it...
This is the cake that Jaxon's girlfriend, Michaela made for him....yes they are tim tams you can see there...
My grandsons first Tim Tam...do you think he likes it...
The kids being themselves, do you know how hard it is to get them to behave for a photo...
Youngest to eldest...Amelia, Jaxon, James, Keelan, Ellesha...
Ok now they are behaving better...we have their partners involved now (and the grandson)...
Jaxon and his beautiful girlfriend Michaela....Michaela made two very large lasagnes for dinner as well as the cakes...
Michael, Elle and Hudson...the only way we got Hudson to look at the camera is to tell him there was a tim tam in the lens...lol
 Jaxon and Michaela again...
Well thats it for birthdays...now for some sewing stuff...
A couple of little projects from the Natalie Bird book - In My Garden...
And another little Japanese bag from Patchwork Mariko...the Mini Ami Bag pattern.
Boy did I have fun with this...NOT...I reached a stage when where I had all the weaving done - well I
thought it was all done, only to find that right back at the start I had done a mistake...I tried for ages to work it out and it didn't make any difference to the outcome.  So I undid it all and started again, and ta da  - it worked....why didn't I unweave it all the first time I couldnt get it right...but oh no, not me, just keep persisting for hours....making lotsa of choice noises and words...
It was so easy if you do it right the first time....now it looks pretty good....I know, I was just being stubborn and did not want to admit I had done it wrong....so glad I persisted though and I never want to discuss this matter ever again....lol
Well thats it for me...good night all...xx

Lunchtime with Friends..

Just a quick post...Grandson is on his way here so I don't have much time...lol
Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting Lynda and her friend Diane at lunch with Helen and Teresa...
Lynda is a fellow member of Friends In Stitching so I have stalked her blog for some time now and it was wonderful to actually meet in person...
We had a wonderful day with loads of laughter and some very yummy food...
From left to right - Helen, Lynda, Me, Diane and Teresa...
Don't we look like a handsome bunch....all dressed up and big smiles to boot...
I loved our lunch together - it is always lovely to catch up and meet new friends ( and to put faces to blogs)..
Hopefully we will get to catch up again in the near future...
Now I have been doing a little sewing lately... I have finished my Natalie Bird bag - The Happy Dog Tote Bag...and of course you know me, I can not keep to a pattern - I just have to alter it to suit myself...This
time I changed the stitchery on the front to another from the same book - In my Garden...
Here is my chosen design...
And here is the finished bag...
I am feeling very chuffed at the moment - this is another finish for me and its only January....when I say
I am on a roll - I mean - I am on a roll...tada.....I am such a clever girl...lol
Ok enough of the self appraising....lol
catchya all later....

McKenna Ryan Stitch--a-long

I have finished my first McKenna Ryan pattern...Munch A Bunch, or as I call it...the goat...
Can you see it..lol   and that's as close as I want anyone to get....I have learnt two things while doing this project..
1.  I need more different coloured threads..
2:  I suck at raw edge applique...
Maybe I am dyslexic because my mind was tell my hands where I wanted the needle to go and my hands were having no part of this...maybe my hands are just plain stubborn and wont listen to me...
I am looking at this photo thinking - wow my house looks really empty but believe me it is not...we have been painting the inside of the house and this just happen to be a spot where I could hang this up...not to mention it is way down a hall where no one can have a closer look...mmm might leave it there...
Oww all right I will give you a closer, but just this once....
Alright I am now feeling a little brave....you get fie seconds to look closer but thats all...you must look away after that......oh and I am not silly, I did choose a - not to bad - area to take a close up...lol
Being part of this group is so good because this pattern would still be sitting, collecting dust, waiting for me to drag it out and put it back again....
I have been inspired to give it a go, and besides, someone in the group (no names of course) is threatening me with a whip if I don't keep up...so I had better do what I am told...lol
Ok thats it for me...
I told you to stop looking at my stitching....look away  - NOW...

A Christmas Story and Christmas Belles

I have finally finished the top of my - A Christmas Story - quilt by Anni Downs...
You may remember last year when I was planning on having this one completed for Christmas 2013, well that didn't go quite to plan, to be honest, I didn't progress any further since then, it just stayed on my wall - there in full view to torment me every time I came into the sewing room...
Well it can torment me no more...well maybe until I actually quilt it...lol
I am not sure what colour binding I will use, the pattern shows a tan farbic, but I am thinking maybe the blue I have used as the border...what do you think?
Some of the Tuesday Girls are doing a quilt-a-long this year - Christmas Belles - and we are to complete blocks 1 and 2 this month.  Well I am ecstatic  to say that I am up to date...
I am on a roll, so what is next..mmm let me see...
Catchya all next time round...

Mini break

Just had what Bridget Jones would call - A Mini Break...hubby and I went camping down at Flat Rock in New South Wales.  Flat Rock is between Lennox Heads and Balina....they have some lovely beaches there and such beautiful country side...all a lovely lush green colour...they are obviously getting more rain than we are..
First day...Going for a walk along the beach...
A view to the north...Lennox Heads is the other side of cliff...
Day two....A wonder around the rock pools...

Day three....hubby reliving his childhood...or maybe teenagehood....lol
I know the surf looks flat here but just around the bend it is bigger...
A little sewing for me...playing with elongated hexes...

Day four....another walk...see I told you the surf was larger around the corner...there are three dolphins that came and played with the surfers each day....if I didn't know any better I would think they were trying to
imitate the surfers...
Now for a walk down the other way...mmm not to many people to notice my wobbly bits while wearing my togs...phew!!!
Well thats all, we are back now...and may I say that out of all the things I did while away...eating at the restuarant at Lennox Heads or the French Cafe in Balina...or all the walks along the beaches and the swims in the surf....I was not impressed with the kilo that followed me home...how dare it...doesnt it know what happens on holidays - stays on holidays....would be nice if I could send it back....oh well - it was worth it...
Now what did I leave in my sewing room that might be needing some attention.....cya

A Mckenna Ryan start

I have had a couple of McKenna Ryan patterns hanging around (should I mention for years - but no I wont go there)...and this year I have joined Susan's on-line group for completing these projects...
I have been a little reluctant to start these projects, always feeling a little out of my depth with raw edge applique but being part of this group has given me the push I have needed..
I first had to find my patterns - two wall hangings, yes you read right - they were only wall hangings not quilts..and no I am not a wuss...
Step two was to add some fabric to the ones I have stashed away (I did have high hopes of one day
actually doing these patterns so I did have a couple of fabrics).  But one must do what one must and shopping for more colours was a neccessity.
I ran out of Vliesofix after a small start so this meant another shopping trip...oh dear...
Now after much deliberation and a lot of thinking, I managed to finish the top....
Most people who know me, know I am a little partial to goats so it seemed appropriate to start with this pattern..Please ignore the pink fabric around the outer - this is the back of the backing fabric which is red...
Now all I have to do is quilt it...mmm   might need to have a drink or two to loosen up before starting this bit..lol
Anyhow I am going away for a couple of days so I will catch up with everyone when I get back...
Oh and I did manage to sort out the photo problem, kinda, I had to change to Google Chrome for it to work (not sure if I like Google Chrome yet as now I seem to have all these pop ups happening when I open it up).
All that needs doing is to repaste all the previous photos where they are not - easy - NOT more like mind numbingly slow....so please excuse me if I take my time reapplying them...
Thats all today, catchya all next week...cya

OOPS

UPDATE:  Darn, I just cant fix this....it doesn't matter what I do, I can not get my photos to upload onto old or new posts...I am giving up tonight....anyone have any ideas?

So Sorry girls, I thought I was doing a good thing by cleaning up space on my computer - I had photos saved in two places -Picasa and in a file under photos, so I thought I would get rid of the ones in Picasa and just keep the other file...well I did that and Picasa wiped the lot, which I have only just realised has removed all the photos from my blogs as well...
Hubby has thankfully put all the photos onto a portable hard drive so I will get him to put them back on my comp...so please be patient while I fix this.....
