Some Kind of Wonderful...

You know how you collect lots of beautiful books, and they sit quietly on your shelf waiting for you to rekindle the love affair you had with it the first time you viewed its glossy new pages...
Well I am going to reignite that passion, starting with my Some Kind of Wonderful book...
I have been doing the stitchery parts bit by bit - not pushing myself - just taking my time and was now in a position to put some of them together...
Here are my finished projects....
The Sewing Case....
The Needlecase, pincushion and coin purse....
Mmm, wonder which pre-loved book I will drag out next...
Cheers....

Retreat with the Girls..

I don't usually like to brag but how could I not when this has been my bed for the last four days...
My cottage this time round was called "Ivy" which I thought was wonderful because that is my grandmothers name...
Norreen was my room buddy this time round, which worked out great because we are both
early risers, hence we don't disturb anyone else when we wake up...unless one goes visiting at the
other cottages....
We usually wait until day two to venture out to the local cafe/gift shop - Bryson's -  but patience were nowhere to be found, so a trip on the first day was a must (and the third day..lol)....
Here are the girls....Michelle, Jenny and Tatyana...
 Teresa (Cassie) and myself....

 Norreen, Tereasa and Jenny...
 Helen and Jen.

Fiona from BugzRugz made a special trip out to visit us for the day...and upon her leaving in the afternoon left us with a surprise....and pile of wrapped pressies for us to play a game with..
Now I have never played this game before and I don't know what it was called but you got to steal the gifts off the other players...it was so funny...
Tereasa was first up to open a gift....
A beautiful bag, but as this game implies, she did not get to keep it...lol
After many laughs and lots of stealing, this is what I scored...a lovely thread catcher, bookmark and needles case...  Thank You heaps Fiona, it was a wonderful surprise and we had a ball playing it....we are actually thinking of making this game a regular event at retreat...
Have a look at these two little beauties....Michelle has been cleaning out some of her teddies and I was lucky enough to stealtake, aquire these two little treasures...
I love the look on the tan teddies face....he is obviously the one to drive the other one around to all the quilt shops and cafes....she is so happy and he just looks grumpy.   I need to think of a good name for them...
A close up....Just makes you want to smile, doesn't he....
I came home with this little girl from Bryson's...she looks a little sad so I will make sure she gets an invite to the shops with the other teddies....I am sure little mister teddy wont mind being around two giggly girls...
Now Michelle had not finished with us and gave all the girls a little gift...talk about spoilt...teddies and goodie bags...thank you Michelle, it was lovely having you along, I hope we didn't lead you astray too much....
I have always wanted to purchase Michelle's Alphabet 'Noel' pattern and never got my act together to actually buy it...Michelle was kind enough to bring one to retreat for me...I can think of a dozen ways to use it already so I am sure it will be a very handy investment....Thank you Michelle...
If you read my blog, you will know that last time I was on retreat I bought this beautiful coffee cup, I have lots of teacups but this was my only "pretty" coffee cup...well, you see, I dropped it not long ago...one minute it was in my hand and the next it was on the floor in a million pieces..I had been so careful with it and I was so disappointed when it broke.  I had bought it at Bryson's and while we were there I was able to find the exact same one...so I am keeping my fingers crossed that this one lasts a bit longer in one piece..
Now you may be thinking - does this girl sew...and yes I do but it was secret sewing and I just can't show you....but I can show you these little bags that I managed to make while there...I love the fabric, I have been very attracted to the colour blue these days and knew this material would be purrfect for this project.
Well thats it for me...I may have a - part 2 - to blog about when I can steal some photos from the girls....Thank you Michelle and Jenny, it has been a blast having you both join us....I hope we didn't shock you too much....I think not....I think you are both secretly just like us, but I wont tell
anyone....promise....
Ok now I really am going...thanks girls for a fabulous retreat....I had a ball, was spoilt rotten, and giggled myself silly...what more could one want...oh ok - maybe cuddles from hubby...lol
Chow babies...(dont know where that came from - I'm tired and my brain is starting to malfunction - need rest)   xxx

Sunday Stitches and a little packing...

Sunday Stitches
Today was our first get together for 2014....and although I didn't get a photo of everyone that came today, I did get one of these ladies showing the beginnings of their bag/swap quilt...
The first line in the quilt has the theme of - flowers...
Looking good ladies...
It was a fantastic day catching up with what everyone had done over the holidays and what plans they have for this year...sooo looking forward to our next meeting..
Now for my packing....The Tuesday Girls, along with a couple of special ladies, are heading off
tomorrow for our Retreat at Glenrose Patchwork...
I think I have packed all that I need...maybe not - I can still see a gap here and there, maybe I can fit more in...
Anyway, things will be quiet here until I get back, hopefully with lots of photos to show you all...ok and maybe a little stitching..
See you all later....

A Little Bit of Creativity

Yesterday I just could not get motivated to do any sewing...I sat in my sewing room for an hour trying to decide what I should tackle next...
I should be sandwiching a quilt but alas - no wadding left in the cupboard....add this to my Need To Buy List..
Maybe I could do a little hand stitching....mmm...I think not...don't feel like concentrating on doing neat and tidy stitches...
I could check out all my books that I love and always have intentions of making loads of items from them but never do...they just sit there and look pretty...(and collecting dust)..
I could clean my room - NAH - So Over-rated....cleaning  - such a dirty word...
MMM Need something to get my juices flowing....I know - I could pull out all my pretty papers and I Just Gotta Have Nick Nacks and make some cards...
I am one of THOSE people who collect lots of bits and pieces with the intention of using them but never do...so yesterday I planned on actually making something with some of them (I didn't even make a dint in the pile - how sad)...
I tried to use up a particular colour range so I didn't have lots of bits and pieces left over...anyway this is what I came up with...

I have also made a card for my grandsons second birthday but I can't show you that one yet...so you will just have to wait...
Hubby walked into my room at one stage and never comments of the state of it but yesterday he just couldn't help himself...He thought I was cleaning.....hahahaha....he is soooo funny..
I had to explain that I needed ALL the papers out and ALL the nick nacks out and ALL the stamps out and ALL the ribbons out etc etc etc...I should have taken a photo but I could not find my camera under all the stuff....lol
Mental Note To Self - I do not need anymore stuff.....full stop....must use up what one has first...
at least make a dint in what one has first...
Well thats all folks...
Catchya round...

A Christmas Story and a catch up...

First of all - A Christmas Story by Anni Downs....It is finished...
I spent yesterday pinning it in preparation for our up and coming retreat but after I finished doing
this I figured - why not finish it??? and so I did...
Not the greatest photo but I did take a couple of close ups...

This is the label I put on the back...
I have been meaning for some time to make a new sewing mat, my old one was looking tired and boring...this is my new one - I have sewn the binding in a brown colour - can you guess why?
Nope - alright then I will tell you....Well it is something like this...Roses are my favourite flower as represented in the fabric and brown reminds me of chocolates...so I will refer to it as my Valentine Mat - Chocolate and Roses..
Now you cannot have a new matt without a new cover to match, well to tell the truth, I didn't have a cover on my machine at all...unless you can count the dust (Dust cover - lol).
Some of you might know that I am a member of an on-line sewing group - Friends In Stitching, and the members are scattered all over Australia.  So you can imagine how much fun it is to meet
one of the members in person..Vicki and her husband were visiting Brisbane last week and some of us had the chance to meet up for lunch..
From left to right - me, De, Greg, Glenn, Gavan, Helen and Vicki...
We had a wonderful day with lots of chatter and yummy food.
There are 22 very clever and creative members of this group and this is my second year with them.  Three of The Tuesday Girls (my regular sewing group) are members and to be lucky enough to meet some of the others is a bonus....and to meet two of them, Lynda and Vicki,  a week apart is just brilliant..
Now its time to say goodbye, I will catch you all later...
