A Day Out To Montville

Hubby has been on holidays and youngest daughter was starting school the following day, so a last minute road trip to the Sunshine Coast Hinterlands was going to be the thing to do..
Our first stop was to the lovely Poets Cafe..
We sat with our morning tea on the veranda so we could take in the views while eating our meal..
Darling daughter sampling my tea after devouring her own meal - vanilla slice and chocolate milkshake (chip off the old block that one)..
Now this shop is the reason for the chosen destination on the day, "Christmas On The Hill"..
I was not disappointed, christmas, christmas, christmas everywhere...my little eyes could not get enough.  I think I even gave a little moan or sigh when leaving the premises...
More christmas.
But wait - there's more... I did restrain myself to a degree (after all, didn't want hubby or darling daughter see their mother go totally nuts)..
We then headed to the local waterfall lookout.  I can not remember the name, I think this is because it was over-loaded with christmas stuff to remember the trivial things like this..
There was a slight drissle hence the umbrella but that was ok because it was a nice change to the heat we have been having in Queensland lately..
Off to Melany next where hubby and I found this little cheese shop, and no I can not remember it's name either but I do remember the name of the cheese that I chose - double smoked truffle brie..
I guess my brain only stores the important things it feels I need to remember..
This shop was for my daughters benefit.(told you - chip of the old block).  Mental note: stop using that phrase because that would mean that I am "the old Block", doesn't it?
We then took a tour around the Glasshouse Mountains.  I did try to get a good photo of the views but the weather was dull and the photo's could not do it justice, so I chose to take a couple of photos of their photos.  Did that make sense, well it did for me...
I stood for ages just looking out and taking it all in... it certainly is a beautiful country...
Now I know you have been wondering what I bought at the christmas shop...
Here are my 'controlled' purchases...
Two little elves sitting on cotton reels stitching teddies...I think these were made just for me..lol
A set of christmas magnets, a cute timber painted mitten and a cardinal sitting on a post..
That was all I bought there, told you I was well behaved besides they do have an on-line store and hubby has to go back to work eventually...lol
This morning darling daughter started year 10...she is beginning to look all grown up...sob sob.
Amelia is our youngest of five kids and the thought of how close we are getting nearer to NOT having to do the school run etc is over whelming..   Only three years to go...and yes we are counting down...
I just have to finish this post with a couple of photos of the roses in my garden...this one came out to bloom a couple of days ago...so pretty.   Do I leave it in the garden or bring it in to my bedside table to be admired up close?   decisions decisions...
This one has not shown itself properly to the world yet, maybe it knows what I am thinking of doing to the other one...I will check on it again tomorrow..
Well that's it for me...two very big days..and another couple of big ones to come...all family birthdays so for those who only visit my blog for the sewing stuff, then I apologize now.  I will get into my sewing room eventually.
Cya all

January

Who can believe that we are already nearing the end of January, it's so close I can actually taste it..
The Tuesday Girls have started a Christmas wreath, with plans on making one part each Tuesday...
This was great in theory, and after a very slow and stress day trying to figure out what on earth we were doing, we finally got into a bit of a rhythm and now are finding them easier to do...
Here is my Santa partly done.
And wha he looks like finished...
The following week we all worked on the snowman... He's looking really smart all decked out with his hat and scarf...
Today we worked on the presents... I was like  on sugar or something cause I managed to get both done...
While Teresa and myself were working on our pressies, Helen was helping Norreen with her blog...
Does it look like things are going well....I don't think so...Norreen has one of those personalities that
Repels technology...and for the past couple of years has had one drama or another ... Today was no different...
Helen was very patient and spent the day trying to sort it all out, whereas Teresa and myself had a case of the sillies... And no sugar was involved at all..
It started when Helen was using some 'special' words while conversing with the iPad.   Teresa and I started changing the words, this lead to us repeating the phrase " what the frog " over and over again... I told you we had the sillies...
Then we tried - using our icons - to decide which one looked like a 'wan#er'.   Well things just seemed to get sillier and sillier...we both were waiting for Helen to throw something at us, but she didn't, she loves us even when we are kinda stupid...
We all love Norreen too, she makes us laugh even though Helen looks like she has a really really bad headache...lol.   Hope it's all fixed now and you can blog to your hearts content...
I have finally done my very first Lucy Boston block...  Sewing the pieces together is easy, but choosing the fabric takes me forever.   I hope this part gets easier..
I have also been doing a little secret sewing lately, but more about this later.
That's all for today... Catchya all later.  Xx

Meg's Birthday

My Mother-in-law celebrated a birthday today and we decided to get together for an outing up at Mount Tamborine..
We first met up at the local Markets, where I bought some healthy fruit and veges, another rose plant for my garden and some Rhubarb Jam (Hubby's favourite)..
A photo of Meg and her children....Fran, Wayne, Cameron and Meg (in front)...
See it happens in all families...children misbehaving and not staying still for the camera...
After the markets, we headed to Birchgrove Nursery for a coffee/cake....no photo's but I did take one of this rose.   It's not the one I bought but everytime I look at this photo, I kick myself for not getting it...so beautiful and the smell was out of this world..
We then headed to some of the local Antique stores and one strange store.....Me calling it 'strange' is an understatement.    It had some antiques but it was something from the "Addams Family' style..
There were skulls on their christmas tree,  real mummified frogs, carvings on animal skulls, lots of
dead things full stop....I was so out of my comfort zone that I couldn't even look the shop owner in the eye...she might have hexed me... and what goes perfectly with a shop like this...outside was a hearse with a coffin in it...   And no I have not exaggerated....I dare anyone to go there...I am not usually judgemental like this but you would have to see it to believe it...I was even worried about taking any photo's.    There was even a snake skin at the front door...  I don't want to ever go back there, and it was not - halloween scary - it was creepy scary...
We needed lunch after going there,so off to Gallery Walk for lunch....and then home..
It was a lovely day, getting together with in-laws and celebrating Meg's Birthday...I hope we can do it again one day..except for THAT shop...(sorry shop owner)....
Happy Birthday Meg (I know she stalks my blog)...
Love
Me...

A Little Catch Up

Wow, it's only the 11th of January and already I am behind in my posts for this year...
What to do first...mmmm
Might have to be the grandson first...
Went to the Coffee Club with, well too many to name, but my grandson was there...   He had a Babychino, and by the looks of things, I think he enjoyed it heaps...
No more photo's nan, must eat/drink....
My daughter - the baby wanted french toast so my daughter was willing to indulge him...
Now some sewing....   Block 8 of Libby's Mystery BOM Quilt...
 A closer look...
The Kate Hill bag my eldest daughter won in a competition...we were stirring her up here because it was delivered to my address and the youngest daughter wanted to claim it...or should I say - I wanted to claim it...
More Sewing - Block 9 Libby's Mystery BOM Quilt - and the last block in this quilt...wow and it's only January, at this rate it might even be quilted by christmas....
A closer look at this adorable little teddy...
The Tuesday Girls went on a road trip on Tuesday, we first paid a visit to East Coast Fabrics and then to The Quilter's Store.   If I tell you that I forgot to take photo's of our outing, would you believe me...we you should.   For some strange reason I only have photo's of my lunch - how weird is that?
Oh Well, we went to a fantastic little place called "The Nook", and here is my lunch - cause you just really needed to see it..lol
Scollops with sun dried tomatoes and crispy prosciutto....yum   even looks a little healthy...
But that is because next to this, it probably was the healthier of the two...(sorry for the sideways pic),
here we have the naughty - Mars Bar Cheesecake.
I have been playing with some of my fabrics and have made these blocks out of my Batiks...

These are not my usual choice of colour but I did enjoy making them and like where it is heading...but I do tend to get bored and did not want to make 'another' quilt...what should one do??
Turn one into a mug rug of course and an almost finished, thread catcher....lol   No idea what to do with them now...oh well, it was fun to play...
 That's all folks...
